If you were born between 1965 and 1975, this CD will bring back memories. It may do so, even if you weren't born in that time period. On some tunes, John Melllencamp has a special way of singing in first person that makes every song personal. The music and lyrics are never very deep or sophisticated, but simple and sometimes touching. Ain't Even Done With The Night is a great example of the power of simplicity. It's a teen coming of age story reminiscent of everyone's first sexual experience.
The nights were always too short in the front seat of a '75 Chevy Nova parked in front of the airport. There are a bevy of other tunes on this CD that will bring back memories including: Hurt so Good, Jack and Diane (Kahn and Diane for my HSS friends), Pink Houses, Small Town, and R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A. This album qualifies for 5 BB & B's just on the grounds that it is timeless. It may not be ageless, however, but definitely should be in your collection. Open a six pack of Old Dutch, pop in this CD, sit back, and talk about old times.
