Jumbotron
FAQ 2.0
What is a Jumbotron?
A Jumbotron is a
huge, huge LED display
device. For all intents and purposes, it's a gargantuan television. Most
commonly they are used at sporting events, both indoor and out. Jumbotron
has become the generic name for all huge display devices. However, Jumbotron
is a trademark of the Sony corporation.
How big is a Jumbotron?
Jumbotron's vary
in size depending on venue. "In 1985 Sony stunned the
world at the International Science and Technology Expo by launching
the largest image display in history, a 40 metres wide X 25 metres high
Jumbotron" (IntechZone). From
what I can tell, the Skydome in Toronto Canada has the largest Jumbotron
used regularly. It measures 33 feet tall by 110 feet wide,
and cost $17 million (SkyDome).
Typically,
the Jumbotrons that hang from the middle of ceilings at basketball games
are 8 X 11 feet. The Jumbotron at Three Rivers Stadium in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is 23 X 31 feet. The Jumbotron at
Jacobs' Field in Cleveland, Ohio is 26 X 37 feet. Sony has
a list
of venues and their respective Jumbotron sizes.
Does Big Beef and
Beer actually have a Jumbotron?
Not yet, but we're
working on it. Reggie currently has two 25 inch teleivisions and one
13 inch television. Swank has only one 19 inch television and no cable.
Do you know where
someone can rent a Jumbotron?
No. We used to,
but it hasd been very difficult to find anyone dealing in them.
What happened to
the link to IntechZone?
Someone must have
bought their domain name. Someone alleging to be the President of the
United States of America wrote us to let us know that our link took
visitors to a porn site. Per his request, we removed the link.
What will Big Beef
and Beer do with a Jumbotron?
When we open Tim's
Big Beef and Beer, we also plan to open a bar in the back named Greg's
Techno Barn. Three of the walls will be like ordinary barn
walls, but the fourth wall will be constructed with the largest Jumbotron
we can buy. We will use the Jumbotron to have the most exciting
entertainment venue on the planet.
What kind of events
will you host?
Imagine dancing
to your favorite music and looking up and seeing yourself, and your
friends, 20 feet tall on the Jumbotron. Imagine watching
your favorite football team score a touchdown and watching a 40 foot
football float through the air during the instant replay. Imagine
watching a 30 foot ball drop on New Year's Eve hosted by a 20 foot tall
Dick Clark.
The possibilities
are only limited by our imaginations. Tentatively we are
planning Monday Night Football on the big, big, big screen, a techno
night, house night, and a live rock night with Jumbotron simulcast.
What will you do
when there is no Monday Night Football (offseason)?
During the offseason,
Mondays will be our night off. We will however pay our employees to
run a country night on Mondays and find someone to teach line dancing
on the Jumbotron. It will be like someone doing the Watermelon
Crawl on your forehead.
How soon will you
have your Jumbotron?
At our current rate
of earnings, we expect to have a Jumbotron in time for Superbowl LXXXIV. We
are trying to improve our rate of earnings.
How much does a
Jumbotron cost?
Conservative estimates
start at $ 2 - 4 million for one around 23' x 31' in size. Actually,
we will probably open the restaurant and club before we get the Jumbotron. Consequently,
we may rent one so we don't have to wait until 2050 to have our first
Superbowl party. Mobile units rent for $5,000 to $15,000
for 3 days.
Who is invited
to your Superbowl party?
You! All
you have to do is put your name and e-mail address on our update
