Big Beef Music Review

    Will Smith is at it again.  No matter how old the song, no matter how scratched up the record, Will Smith can rap over it and make it hit.  He appeals to both our sense of nostalgia, and our joy from novelty.  He continues his series of top 40 hits with the title track to the movie Wild Wild West.
    This song, a cover of the old school rap by Kool Moe Dee, at face value is not unpleasant.  It will not do as well as his recent hit from Men in Black or his single Gettin' Jiggy With It, however.  He's only human.
    I expected Will Smith to rap on this album, but I didn't expect a whole plethora of rap artists as well.  After all,  it is "music inspired by the motion picture."  I don't see how Dr. Dre singing about AK-47 assault rifles has anything to do with the wild west. Perhaps the album should have been labeled "music inspired by the uninspired lives of gangsta rappers."
    The only song, besides the title track, that may not fit into that category is Bailamos, by Enrique Iglesias.  Bailamos literally translates into "we dance."  The sultry latin rhythms and smooth vocals created visions in my mind's eye of Salma Hayek and I engaged in the Lambada butt naked.  I listened to it over and over again.
    For the most part, this album is pretty bad. If you like Will Smith, you'd be better off buying his album than this sound track. Click here for Will Smith's discography.
